The Use of PREPOMETER

PREPOMETER measures the electric resistance of the dentine. The accomplishment of such a measurement requires the completion of an electric circuit. For this purpose, an electrode is fitted to the oral cavity at any location, e.g. at the corner of the mouth, and connected to PREPOMETER. The measuring tip of PREPOMETER is moistened with a physiological saline solution for contact to the dentine tubuli. The superficially dried tooth stump is now scanned with the measuring tip, whereby the PREPOMETER display has to be noticed. The illuminating diodes now signalize, if a deeper preparation is possible.

You will often realize that the dentine layer above the pulp is relatively thick where you didn't expect it, whereas other areas do not allow a deeper preparation. The preparation now depends on the individually different pulp dimensions of the respective teeth as well as on the user's assumption, where it could be.
